Agents of Change: African American Professionals in the Intelligence Community Reflect

A Black History Program

Feb 25, 2025. 6:30 p.m.

As famed icon and WWII spy Josephine Baker once wrote, “Surely the day will come when color means nothing more than skin tone, when religion is seen uniquely as a way to speak one’s soul, when birthplaces have the weight of a throw of the dice and all men are born free, when understanding breeds love and brotherhood.” The journey to that day is ongoing. This evening, join us for a discussion with intelligence professionals who’ve traveled that path. What lessons have they learned, both from moments of progress and from obstacles that persist? They’ll reflect on the inspirations that fueled their journeys and share their plans on how to empower the next generation of leaders.

The conversation will be moderated by an IN Network ambassador, who will lead an engaging discussion with: Ambassador Marcia S. Bernicat, 32nd Director General of the Foreign Service; Spy Museum Advisory Board Member Col. (Ret.) Fleming Sullivan, United States Army Special Forces Officer (Green Beret); and Brigadier General (Ret) Francis X. Taylor, former Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Intelligence and Analysis. Together, this esteemed panel brings a wealth of experience spanning multiple facets of the intelligence community. Their stories and insights will challenge perceptions, spark meaningful dialogue, and inspire action toward shaping a more inclusive future in national security. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with some of the most accomplished professionals in the field and gain invaluable perspectives on leadership, resilience, and the road ahead.

This is a hybrid program (in-person & virtual). Following the discussion you can ask your questions in-person or online. The in-person event will have open seating available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
