Phillips after 5 celebrates techno music culture and Germany’s world-renowned electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk. Developed in collaboration with artist, DJ, and music historian Adrian Loving, this special edition of Phillips after 5 is not to be missed.
- DJ Lola Villa will spin a mix of vibey electronic techno tracks and Kraftwerk-inspired grooves.
- Enjoy Kraftwerk cover band Computerworld, set to an exciting visual backdrop.
- Watch a rare DC screening of “God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines” (Washington Hill Pictures, 2022) by Kristian R. Hill and Jennifer Washington—the story behind one of Detroit’s great contributions to world culture: Techno, the electronic music phenomenon created by Black artists in the 1980s that transformed dance music internationally and blossomed into the multi-billion dollar industry of EDM today.
- Techno-Makers Workshop: Save your spot for a special hands-on session of creative music-making, sampling, and rhythmic sound patterns influenced by the music of Kraftwerk and other techno artists.
- In the art workshop, create magnets and keychains inspired by the techno-brutalist movement.
